Weymouth's fairy lights are going out

WORK begins today on the first phase of a controversial scheme that will see Weymouth’s traditional fairy lights replaced with lasers.

The ‘Veils of Light’ lasers is one part of the Weymouth and Portland Borough Council-led project and has attracted criticism from some people.

The borough council insists the package of lighting improvements will significantly enhance the seafront and remove age-old infrastructure.

Street lighting columns will be replaced by new structures as part of a Dorset County Council private finance initiative (PFI).
