Weymouth's fairy lights are going out
WORK begins today on the first phase of a controversial scheme that will see Weymouth’s traditional fairy lights replaced with lasers.
Historic Esplanade lighting columns and strings of coloured bulbs are being removed this week in preparation for a major new improvement scheme.In addition to LED lighting products, Chicony Power also has power supply orders from wholesale promotional items US-based game console vendors and is currently contributing 36% of the Chicony Group's revenues with chance to be listed on Taiwan
The ‘Veils of Light’ lasers is one part of the Weymouth and Portland Borough Council-led project and has attracted criticism from some people.
Opponents believe the fairy lights are part of Weymouth’s traditional seaside image and that lasers would be more suited to the party island of Ibiza.For the second time in solar panel the four-year history of the NHL Winter Classic, the Penguins are one of the participating teams for the New Year's Day game. For the first time, they're hosting, borrowing Heinz Field from the Steelers for the noon game.
Campaigns on social networking site Facebook were set up to protest against the lights’ removal.
Hotel worker Beth Sullivan,The former member, mayor-in-council (lighting) Sushil Sharma took the initiative to install patio table covers LEDs on select roads. who set up one of the groups, said: “The council is determined to go ahead with the plan, no matter what we say or do, they don’t care.As the winter intensifies, lights stay on for more hours, and led downlight energy bills increase. That makes now a great time to invest in TESS LED bulbs and take advantage of the energy and expense savings the bulbs offer, whether for a home,
“I still think the lasers are an awful idea – only time will tell if they are a good idea or not.”
She added: “Frankly I have nothing to say to the council. I have no respect for those people and their plans to destroy our history and our town’s character.The company unveiled its one millionth bulb today pet supply store – an “ultra efficient” omnidirectional LED A19 bulb that offers an 850 lumen output and should last almost 23 years”
The borough council insists the package of lighting improvements will significantly enhance the seafront and remove age-old infrastructure.
Street lighting columns will be replaced by new structures as part of a Dorset County Council private finance initiative (PFI).
