“I’ve had solar panels installed in my house and I’m very much involved with the ‘green’ side of things.
“I told the parish council about how much money I had saved and we looked into ways that this could benefit the village as well.”
Not only does the scheme save money, it reduces the village’s carbon footprint and reduces the amount of light pollution going into the sky for stargazers in the village.
Mr Stewart said: “I’ve already been contacted by astrology groups who are very supportive of the idea.”
One area of the village is unadopted by the parish council, but residents clubbed together to raise the money to update their lighting to LED as well to match the rest of the village.
Mr Stewart said: “It’s definitely something that I would encourage other councils to do and something that Rutland County Council is keen on supporting.”
